100% agree. GOT is very much a reaction to LOTR and Tolkien’s work. A more accurate comparison of the two shows would be that Mad Men “I don’t think about you at all” meme with GOT in the Ginsberg spot.
McCreary has been, in fact crushing this season. Overcoming Howard Shore’s OG score is something very few could do. I think he’s finding his own way and imbuing this world with a whole different kind of magic. I am consistently impressed by how subtle, moving, and downright catchy his score is.
